TESTIMONIALS

What people say about us...

Canwick House is more than a care home. My dearly loved friend passed away in their loving care in December 2024 after 8 years as a resident - 8 happy years. Nothing by any of the staff was ever too much whatever I asked, it is indeed a huge team effort committed to the holistic wellbeing. The care delivered with diligence and dignity. I was also very well looked after and was always included at a lunchtime so my friend and I could enjoy lunch together.

SH

Best Friend of Resident

I am truly amazed at the wonderful care given to my family member before he passed away. Nothing was too much trouble. All staff were caring and understanding, it felt like one big family atmosphere. The staff spoke with love and respect. They were moved with care and consideration. The home is clean, tidy and smells nice. Once on end of life care the staff were respectful and tactful and so helpful. Thank you to each and every one of you for all your care, consideration and love.

Family Member of Resident

The care at Canwick House is second to none. The staff are so genuinely caring and kind and the atmosphere is unlike any other care home I have visited; happy, calm, relaxed and well organised. Also, homely. There is an atmosphere of lightness and fun, someone is always laughing somewhere. The residents are well turned out, the house is always clean, there are regular events and activities, and everyone is treated as an individual.

Daughter of Resident

We feel very lucky our family member was placed at Canwick House. It has such a lovely atmosphere, looked after by a small group, providing personal touches and a family feel. The staff go out of their way to make all the family welcome on our visits and any special events we are invited to. The staff make sure residents are included in the daily activities. Highly recommend this care home.

The important questions

Who is dementia care for?

Dementia care is for anyone living with Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia who would benefit from support in a safe, calm environment with experienced staff. It might be right for your loved one if everyday tasks are becoming difficult, if they feel anxious or unsettled at home, or if family carers need additional support to keep them safe and comfortable.

When is dementia care needed?

There's no single answer to this question – it depends entirely on the individual and their family's circumstances. Some people come to us in the earlier stages of dementia when they need gentle support with daily routines. Others come when care needs are more complex. You might start thinking about dementia care when daily tasks are becoming unsafe or overwhelming, your loved one feels anxious or confused in their current environment, family carers are finding it difficult to manage especially overnight, or everyone would benefit from the structure and reassurance of a specialist care home. If you're wondering whether now is the right time, we're happy to talk it through with you, without pressure or obligation.

How do you help residents feel safe and settled?

We focus on creating a calm, familiar environment where each resident feels known and understood. Our long-standing team take time to learn about each person's life story, preferences and what brings them comfort. When someone feels unsettled, we respond with patience and familiarity, always looking to understand what might be causing distress. Gentle routines, home-cooked meals, time in our gardens and quiet moments of connection all help residents feel at ease. Because our team have been here for many years, residents benefit from seeing the same familiar faces each day, which brings enormous reassurance.

What funding and support is available for dementia care?

Funding for dementia care can feel complicated, but we'll help you understand your options in plain, simple language. Many of our residents are self-funding, which means they or their family pay for care directly. Some people may be eligible for local authority support, particularly if they have complex needs. In certain circumstances, NHS Continuing Healthcare funding might be available for people whose primary need is healthcare rather than social care. Above all, finding the right home for your loved one is what will make all the difference. We'll talk you through the costs openly and guide you to the different avenues of financial support that may be available for your particular situation.
